Dear Families,
I would like to cordially invite you to attend a virtual panel discussion about dual enrollment/college in high school programming on July 12th at 5:30 pm. During this discussion, we will examine the definition of and features of dual enrollment programming and the benefits it brings to students and our community.
Our goal is not to end, replace, lessen, or remove AP offerings; rather it is to strengthen the number of opportunities we provide for our students. I firmly believe that we can continue to offer high-quality AP programming while increasing the number of dual enrollment opportunities for our students. In fact, I think it is imperative that we do such. We have reached a point in society where credit card debt has been surpassed by college debt for many Americans. My goal is to not only help students make sound academic decisions but also sound financial decisions, as the two are not mutually exclusive at times. I am hopeful that ICTC students and families can attend this event on the 12th. There are plenty of dual enrollment opportunities available for these students as well through articulation agreements between ICTC and post-secondary institutions as well as our own offerings at IHS.
The panel will consist of several esteemed guests from across the Commonwealth who will share their perspectives on dual enrollment and help give insight into the topic. This includes the Deputy Secretary - Office of Postsecondary and Higher Education at the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) - Dr. Tonya Garcia and representatives from Westmoreland Community College and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This event will start at 5:30 and be followed by the Board of Directors' committee and regularly scheduled meetings. You can join the event by clicking on the link via the announcement on our website or by clicking here on the day of the event.
Respectfully,
Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich
Superintendent of Schools
