Dear Friends, Families, and Colleagues:
I hope all of you are doing well. I wanted to take a moment to update you on a variety of items. First, I made an error in my previous communication (March 24th correspondence) to you regarding which days school will be in session. Pending Board approval, school would be in session on April 14 as well as the dates previously communicated (April 9, 13, and May 22), either physically or virtually.
Next, I want to assure you that the administration is monitoring the data regarding the pandemic as well as all information coming from the Governor’s office and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. In my opinion, I do not believe students will be physically in our schools on or about April 9th, as the Governor is hoping. He and his staff have an incredibly difficult task, as the situation changes daily. My office will be sure to communicate with all families as we approach the tentative return date. We will continue to monitor the situation and update you accordingly.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education released some additional information regarding the continuity of education options available to school districts. With COVID-19-related school closures, schools were reminded that it is essential that we plan for our continuity of education efforts. This includes the plan for the graduating class of 2020.
“Continuity of education” is the overarching term for any educational practices that occur in the
event of a prolonged school closure. It is important that students have the opportunity to develop and maintain skills while away from the customary school environment.
It is our intention to provide for continuity of education for all students in the most appropriate and accessible ways possible, while also honoring the Governor’s guidance for the aggressive social distancing of at least six feet between individuals. The District is continuing efforts to provide learning opportunities for our students as previously communicated.
In closing, I realize that I have sent plenty of emails to all of you and I apologize for that. I am simply doing my best to keep you informed of the situation and our plans to address the challenges we are facing. Your cooperation and patience are greatly appreciated. I hope all of you are well. We miss you all deeply. We are looking forward to the time when our halls and schools are filled with our staff and students.
