A message from the Superintendent regarding the school closure

Dear IASD families:

On Thursday, April 9, 2020, Governor Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Education ordered all K-12 schools and programs to be closed through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. As a result, the Indiana Area School District will continue to provide instruction through the distance learning platform(s) we have already established. This announcement has certainly led to additional questions for us as a district, so we understand that you must have additional questions and concerns as well. We promise to keep the communication lines open as we learn more and make final decisions regarding academics, graduation, prom, and other school-based functions and events that are important to us all.

Our plan was built to last, and we are here for your children and you.  I implore you to reach out to us if you have any concerns and questions.  Over the next several days, additional information will be provided from the District regarding our continuity of education plan, as well as several related items.

At this time, we are choosing compassion over compliance.  Our messaging has been consistent and frequent to all stakeholders to keep you involved in the rapidly changing world in which we are currently operating.  I want to assure you that the best interest of your child is at the heart of our decision making. While it is devastating not to have our students in school, we will continue to provide the love, care, compassion, and support that defines our staff, school, and community.  This includes doing all we can to support you, as I realize a great deal of pressure and anxiety has been placed on your families.

The announcement from Governor Wolf allows us to make the appropriate decisions for the remainder of this school year.  Again, we will be communicating frequently to keep our families informed of our decisions and actions. We apologize in advance for the numerous communications but feel they are necessary.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding, and we promise to continue to be as innovative and resourceful as we support your children’s learning.  Again, please reach out to your child’s teachers, principal(s), or my office if you need anything.

Stay safe and be well,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

Superintendent of Schools
