December 11, 2020
Dear Families:
As many of you know, Governor Wolf and Secretary Levine announced several additional mitigation efforts regarding the pandemic yesterday afternoon. Specifically, they provided additional information that pertains to schools. This includes allowing the District to remain open for in-person instruction while adhering to our Health and Safety Plan and the attestation we approved regarding mask use and compliance with closing school(s) based upon the case count per building. In regards to athletics and extracurriculars, the order will require us to change from our current position. Effective Saturday, December 12, 2020, all athletic and extracurricular activities are paused until January 4, 2021.
In-Person Extracurricular School Activities
- Voluntary activities sponsored or approved by a school entity’s governing body or administration are suspended, but these extracurricular activities may be held virtually. This includes, but is not limited to, attendance at or participation in activities such as musical ensembles, school plays, student council, clubs, and school dances.
K-12 School Sports and Youth Sports
- All sports at K-12 public and nonpublic schools, as well as club, travel, recreational, and intramural sports, are paused.
I realize this is upsetting news for all of the students who participate in these activities and the families and staff members who have worked tirelessly, but the decision is simply out of our control. The Athletic and Extracurricular Oversight Team has done an amazing job navigating the District through these turbulent times.
Respectfully,
Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich
IASD Superintendent
