COVID-19 Update - Horace Mann, Ike Elementary Schools and Jr. High

May 21, 2021

Dear Families:

The District was notified that a student at the Junior High, as well as an employee who works at Horace Mann and Ike (Jr. High), has tested positive for COVID-19.  Both individuals were in school during their infectious period.   As a result of contract tracing efforts, nearly a dozen additional staff and/or students need to be quarantined. These positive cases WILL be attributed to the District.

Based on the information above as well as our current case count, we will continue to stay open under the current model.  See below for the current case numbers at each building as of today.  With the closure on Fridays, the case count is reset back at zero.  The decision to be remote on Fridays has permitted us to remain open in many instances.

  • Senior High - 1 active case
  • Junior High - 1 active case
  • Eisenhower - 1 active case
  • Horace Mann - 0 active cases
  • Ben Franklin - 0 active cases
  • East Pike - 0 active cases

As a reminder, the 14-day clock starts at the onset of symptoms, not when the District is informed of the test results.

As always, the number of confirmed cases can change at any time.  We understand the terrible inconvenience a closure causes our families; however, we have a responsibility to make you aware of the possibility.  My goal is not to cause panic, rather it is to help make you aware of the current situation in case the District needs to make a change rather quickly.

Respectfully,

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

IASD Superintendent
